When I was 16, I considered going into industrial design. I loved the idea of working with metals and making physical things. I looked at two great schools in England. I decided however to stay close to home. About four years later, I taught myself graphic design by getting work and just doing it. Now it's like an extension of my arm. : )
However, my love of industrial design has only grown over the years. Today what's possible is SO exciting. I love that Apple keeps hiring industrial designers. The possibilities!
We live in a great time. Industrial design to me always is about service and providing value - value that is well thought out, beautifully conceived and masterfully executed down to the smallest details. I love that you can design things you hold in your hands as much as vehicles of transport.
I've liked the work of Marc Newson, an English industrial designer, who recently joined Apple. Here's a range of products he's designed. Inspiring, isn't it? Fun too!
